How It All Began

The first meeting to discuss the possibility of building a special needs adventure playground in Cannock took place in July 1995.

A steering group was formed chaired by the present secretary, Brian Wilcock. This group went on to oversee the formation of a company limited by guarantee and registration as a charity following which the steering group became a fully fledged Board of Directors.

Negotiations were entered into with Cannock Chase District Council to obtain a parcel of land suitable for such a scheme with the result that the current site on Pye Green Road was offered and gratefully accepted.

Architects, Sutton and Wilkinson together with Quantity Surveyors, Townsend and Renauden gave their time and expertise freely to work with the Board of Directors to design a scheme which encapsulated everything the project wanted to achieve.

Following failed applications for funds firstly to the Single Regeneration Budget and more latterly to the National Lottery the Board of Directors decided to continue in their efforts and submitted a second lottery bid. This time success smiled upon us and the Community Fund made a grant of £497,546 in November, 2001.

The project went out to tender and builders, J.P. Niken of Bloxwich were duly appointed.

Building work finally commenced 7 years after that first meeting on September 16th 2002 with the completion date being April 28th 2003.
